What are the criteria for dblp to index a journal or conference?

The dblp computer science bibliography aims to be a high-quality online reference for bibliographic information, focusing major computer science publication venues. In order to cope with the ever growing publication landscape in computer science and to guarantee the high quality of the database, it is indispensable to assign priorities for the inclusion of publication venues. These priorities are mainly based on the scientific relevance of a venue to the computer science community. Beside the scientific merit, technical aspects such as the availability of processable high-quality meta data have to be considered, too.

To come to a fair judgment, a venue application and review process has been installed by the

dblp advisory board

. This process complements the ongoing daily work of the dblp team. It is also designed to communicate the standards that are assumed to maintain the high quality of the collection.

The dblp advisory board has defined a set of minimum standards that any publication series should meet in order to be indexed by dblp. A summary of the different requirements is given below. Please note that beside the eligibility of a publication venue, the workload and the resources at dblp are always a limiting factor for the inclusion of new venues. This can mean that while a venue may meet the formal criteria below, other venues may take precedence or we simply do not have the resources to include further venues (yet).

Aspects of the venue

The venue should focus on to the field of computer science.
The venue should have a discernible thematic focus within the computer science discipline.
The venue should be well established and should have a regular publishing history.
The venue should be supported by an established publisher or professional society.

Aspects of the editors and authors

The editorial board (or, respectively, the steering and/or program committee) should consist of distinguished experts from the venue's thematic focus.
The set of authors should contain distinguished experts from the venue's thematic focus.
The set of authors should be international.

Publication standards

Contributions to the venue should be original works, which have not been published before.
Contributions to the venue should be vetted in a serious peer reviewing process.
Contributions to the venue should be cleanly typeset and structured according to the usual conventions.
Contributions to the venue should follow established conventions regarding references, citations, and the description of the state of the art.
Contributions to the venue should aim at an international readership.

Accessibility and long-term availability

All bibliographic meta data and the abstracts of contributions and volumes should be openly accessible on the Internet.
All full-texts of contributions should be available online (either openly or as a paid service) in an established digital library.
Steps should be taken to ensure that all documents will still be available in (say) 25 years from now.
All contributions should be registered for persistent document identifiers, such as DOI.
The venue's digital library should allow for web crawlers to automatically readout and collect the bibliographic meta data.
Meta data should be complete and unambiguous.
